Project overview
With the existing asbestos cement fibre roof being stripped and disposed of by others, we arrived to a steel frame ready for installation.
Installing the steel box gutter along the parapet wall first, then a plygene liner to the ACM valley gutter, the eaves parapet wall was then installed as this would have become difficult once the built up roof system had been installed.
Once the main roof build up of steel white liners, bar and bracket system, insulation, GRP rooflights and steel outer sheets had been installed, all flashings were installed , finishing the parapet walls up and over, then tying in to the existing ACM of the neighbouring unit, and finally a new capping flashing around the perimiter.
Materials: Coverworld liner, roof sheets and flashings, Ash & Lacy ashgrid bar system, Filon GRP rooflights.
Approx Area: Roof 1000m2, Parapet 130m2, Steel Gutter 55Lm, Plygene Gutter 55Lm
Project Challenges
Working next to another fragile asbestos cement fibre roof, it was originally agreed that a staging board walkway and tape barrier to show operatives not to cross was a safe way to operate, however, during the project this was reassessed, and a staging board scaffold handrail was also installed to protect against and slips trips and falls.
Results
Asbestos removed from site, with a new twin skin steel roof, new & refurbished gutters, new parapet walls and new flashings.
U-value massively upgraded with a 240mm insulation opposed to the existing 40mm of the original ACM build up.
Client satisfied, leading straight onto another project for the same contractor.
