Project overview

After a vehicle fire spreading into the unit, damaging areas of the existing asbestos cement fibre roof and smoke spreading throughout the roof to all areas, it was agreed by insurers to have the entire roof replaced.

Removal of all asbestos cement fibre roof sheets, plasterboard liners, GRP rooflights and PVC half round gutters, replacing with 120mm Kingspan composite panels, steel trimline gutters & Filon triple skin rooflights.

Materials:   Kingspan insualted panels, hi line gutters & flashings, Filon triple skin rooflights.

Approx Area: Roof 800m2

Project Challenges

Originally, we had planned to build a bird cage scaffold inside the unit, to allow the client to continue to operate below, but it was agreed that it would be safer to close off the whole site for our use only, especially while stripping the asbestos roof.

With a lot of materials and hazardous waste skips in a small car park, access was tight and manoeuvring the telehandler was difficult at times.

Results

A brand new roof, allowing a great deal of additional light into the unit with the bright white liners and new rooflights.

All asbestos removal works carried out safely, with all areas of the building deep cleaned and all waste taken from site by licensed contractors for safe disposal.

The client able to move back in and continue operation as soon as the unit was cleaned after works.
